GREENBRIER VETERINARY HOSPITAL HAS NEW ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES
AVAILABLE
We in veterinary medicine, just like our human counterparts, are constantly
striving to better serve our patients. The ever-expanding use of new
technology is one way we can improve our knowledge and our ability to
diagnose and treat pets.
Greenbrier Veterinary Hospital is one of the first hospitals in the state to
convert to digital radiology. This means that x-rays are converted to
digital images using a special plate. Allowing the images to be
displayed on a monitor within minutes, so that different views or
adjustments can be made immediately. The images are stored on a
computer, which allows us to enhance them, zoom in on problem areas, etc.
Resulting in much better images that will aid in making diagnoses.
We have also upgraded our ultrasound capabilities. Ultrasound utilizes
radio frequency waves to visualize internal organs. Most people are
familiar with its use in human medicine for pregnancy diagnosis. It is
very helpful in diagnosing heart and kidney disease, cancer in organs such
as the liver and spleen, as well as bladder and kidney stones. Our new
advanced equipment is comparable to that used in human medicine, with
excellent detail and color-flow Doppler capability. Ultrasonography
gives us the internal view which sometimes can avoid surgery.
With these two new technologies, we can tap the expertise of top specialists
over the internet! Since our digital x-ray and ultrasound images are
stored on computer, we can email them with case information to
board-certified specialists for consultations and receive answers
immediately. Giving us another avenue for diagnosing really difficult
cases. Greenbrier Veterinary Hospital places strong emphasis on
diagnostics such as bloodwork, x-rays, ultrasounds, etc to achieve accurate
diagnosis for proper treatment.
