Create an Effective Lost/Found Listing

Make sure to include your name and telephone number or e-mail address. The message board includes a search function, so you should use common words people might use to identify the pet.

sizelost or found
dog or catcolor
Greenbrier or Pocahontas (or other county name)male or female

Use breed names, color, etc., and don't abbreviate "lost" or "found". Include information that will help someone recognize the animal, such as: Sex, Color, Hair Length, Temperment.

Size is best compared to popular pets "about the size of: chihuahua/cocker spaniel/labrador/great dane." You can include details in the Subject of the message.

Do Be Specific:

Give details that will help someone recognize the animal and get in touch with you.

SUBJECT: Found, black shorthair dog, Renick
MESSAGE: Friendly, energetic labrador type female dog with collar found Saturday1/17/99 near the Frankford PO. Call Bill at (tel no.) after 6 pm. Greenbrier.

Don't:

Don't make people guess! Is it a dog or a cat? Is it lost or found? How can someone get in touch?

SUBJECT: Brown Shorthair
MESSAGE: In town since Wednesday, limps. Best to call before 2 in the afternoon.

Something else to think about - If you find your pet, or if someone has claimed the pet you posted, please visit the messageboard and post a response to your original message. Please let people know that this works!!
