Quick health care tips for puppies and kittens.

Young pets are exposed to many potential health problems, including diseases, parasites, behavior problems and nutritional problems. Your veterinarian can develop a comprehensive plan to provide maximum health. This article will address just a few important issues.

-Feline Leukemia is a viral disease that affects the immune system of cats. It can be passed down from mother to kittens, so it is very important to test your new kitten at the initial visit. If your kitten is going to be allowed outside, be sure to vaccinate after testing.

-Spring brings an upswing in Parvovirus which causes vomiting and bloody diarrhea in puppies and is frequently fatal if not treated. We save about 85-90 percent of cases with intensive fluid therapy and hospitalization., but treatment can be expensive. Proper vaccination is the key to prevention. Vaccines should start at 6-8 weeks of age and can save you a lot of heartache and expense.

-Crate training for puppies is essential for proper house-training and prevention of destructive behavior.

-Almost all puppies and kittens have intestinal parasites which can also affect humans. A thorough deworming schedule is very important to protect both your pet and your family.

-Microchipping is a quick, virtually painless procedure which will serve as a permanent identification for your pet. The animal shelter can scan for chips if your pet happens to stray away for home. We are now offering this service.
