She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry from Elizabeth City State University. Dr. Smith continued her education and received her Doctorate from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the Caribbean Island of St. Kitts. She then completed one year of clinical training at Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and is an accredited U.S.D.A. Veterinarian.

Dr. Smith’s professional interests include Soft Tissue/Orthopedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Critical/Emergency Care, and Client/Staff Education.

Dr. Smith feels that the most rewarding part of working in veterinary care is sharing a pet’s life from birth, all the way through their senior years. “When I am there from the first puppy or kitten visit all the way through when it’s time to say goodbye, and I have had the privilege to help that pet live a happier and healthier life, I feel a sense of fulfillment and pride that I have been able to share such an amazing time with the pet and their owners.”

Dr. Smith has lots of family in Marlinton and recently relocated from Alaska to Lewisburg. She is excited to explore West Virginia and experience all it has to offer.

Outside of work Dr. Smith enjoys traveling, hiking, running and weightlifting
